Dr. Charles Geschke and Dr. John Warnock founded Adobe in December 1982. Adobe hopes this diverse hiring strategy will bring more talents into the technology industry and fresh perspectives into the company. A primary goal of this modern apprenticeship is to help career switchers reskill and upskill so they can apply to any company, not just Adobe.
Adobe launched the Adobe Digital Academy in 2016 to provide education, apprenticeship (also known as an internship), and job opportunities for career switchers looking to join the tech industry to foster diversity and inclusivity in the workplace. It started in San Francisco, Lehi, UT, and Austin, Texas, before expanding to New York City in 2020. This full-time immersive program offers expert instruction, dedicated career coaching, and job search training. By the end of this program, you should have developed a well-rounded knowledge of user experience design, especially in areas such as wireframing, user research, prototyping, interface design, and usability testing.
The part-time digital marketing program at Adobe Digital Academy prepares you to build expert skills in developing modern marketing strategies, monitoring multi-channel marketing campaigns, and conducting in-depth market data analysis to achieve various business outcomes. Also, you'll build real-time experience using search strategy, social media, Google analytics, and conversion optimization tools.
While the immersive training at the coding bootcamp runs for twelve weeks (three months), the technical apprenticeship spans between three and six months. The 2023 session will offer virtual classes in one of four immersive courses; software engineering, data science, user experience design, and digital marketing.
All the courses have a full-time schedule except for the digital marketing program. Regardless, you’ll receive ongoing performance feedback from instructors. You’ll attend classes from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm every weekday. You’ll also take home assignments and projects that span an average of six hours daily. In the end, General Assembly will offer the graduates certificates of completion and portfolios so they can launch their tech careers.
Adobe does not guarantee tech apprenticeship, but if you’re contacted for the remote apprenticeship, you can look forward to mentorship, peer support, on-the-job training, ongoing feedback, and possibly a full-time position at Adobe. You should expect an eight-hour workday, but your manager will decide your schedule and hours.
Most of the coding bootcamp students who go on to become Adobe apprentices are hired at the end of their training. While Adobe offered no figures, it stated that it has a 96 percent retention rate for all digital academy hires. Fifty percent of the apprentices that Adobe gave full-time employment at the end of its three to six months technical apprenticeship were promoted within their first year of work.
Adobe pays both the bootcamp students and the apprentices. However, you'll not be compensated if you're enrolled in the part-time digital marketing program. According to Adobe, the coding bootcamp students receive a monthly living stipend of $1,400 to $2,000 based on location. Also, the apprentices receive a competitive hourly rate and may be offered a relocation package.
